Cliff Williams / TPI Nine vehicles were involved in a wreck non Highway 14 at Mt. Zion Road.

Nine cars were involved in a wreck on Highway 14 Friday morning.

As commuters were making their way to work a pileup of cars occurred near Mt. Zion Road.

First responders on the scene said drivers were looking directly into the sun before 7 a.m. and starting running into the back of each other as the vehicles slowed down. The majority of the vehicles were damaged in the front and rear.

It took nearly 90 minutes to clear the scene and transport some drivers to area hospitals with what first responders described as non-life threatening injuries.

The Eclectic Fire Department, Tallassee Fire Department, Friendship Fire Department, Haynes Ambulance, Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, ALEA State Troopers and the Alabama Department of Transportation responded to the scene

ALEA State Troopers are investigating the crash.
